The Story of ITSFORKIDSROOM

The Story of ITSFORKIDSROOM

In 2013, when my daughter was just one year old, I loved browsing Korean websites in search of all kinds of cute and cozy nursery decor. During one of those deep dives, I stumbled upon something I had never seen before - a teepee tent for kids. At the time, it was completely new and unique. In Ukraine, there was no way to buy anything similar, and I hadn’t yet discovered the world of American online shopping. Ordering from Korea wasn’t possible either - the tent poles were too long to meet international shipping requirements.

But I couldn’t let the idea go. Around that time, a Korean friend was flying to visit us, and I asked him to bring the kids teepee as a gift. He even had to pay extra at the airport for the oversized package - but it was worth it. The teepee proudly stood in our living room, and my daughter was in love.

It didn’t take long for me to realize: if you couldn’t buy teepee tents for kids in Ukraine, I had to start making them myself. Every child loves to build forts, hideouts, and little houses - and a teepee brings that joy into their own room. I was on maternity leave and longing for something meaningful, creative, and inspiring. I loved photography and everything related to childhood. The universe answered :)

Of course, starting wasn’t easy. It took months to solve the issue of the poles. They had to be foldable to meet international shipping standards, and finding the right hardware was tricky. But in the summer of 2013, we finally created our first kids teepees. Looking back at those early designs now makes me smile - so much has changed over the years.

The name ITSFORKIDS came thanks to my husband, who doesn’t speak English. I kept saying “It’s for… It’s for…” out loud, trying to come up with something. He walked by and said: “It’s for kids!” And that’s how the brand was born. Over time, the name grew into ITSFORKIDSROOM, which truly reflects the heart of what I create: thoughtful, handmade kids room decor.

My daughter was my first model. She loved taking photos inside the teepees and helped me so much during those early days.

At first, I only sold in Ukraine. But by 2015, I opened my Etsy shop. I started by sewing teepees for kids from high-quality Korean fabrics and styling photoshoots in my daughter’s room. Eventually, I started developing full themed shoots to match the prints.

For a short time, I experimented with American fabrics and my own printed designs. By then, many others had started making teepees, and most used Korean prints. I didn’t want to be like everyone else - I wanted something different.

So, I began designing my own prints. I found a company in Ukraine that offered digital printing on cotton fabrics. It was a deeply creative time. My prints were unique - no one else had anything like them.

Of course, custom printing was more expensive, and so my products stood out not only in design but also in price. Around this time, we added more products: bedding, towels, and storage baskets for toys. It all started from a personal need - I couldn’t find kids’ bedding with prints I truly loved.

My son was born during this period, and both of my children became my little helpers and models. They inspired many of the products I made.

As time passed, my style evolved. I became drawn to minimalism - solid, calming colours that fit into any interior. Neutral teepee tents for kids don’t overpower a room; they enhance it. So I began sewing with soft tones like white, beige, and blush pink - and people loved it. On Etsy, I saw more and more customers choosing solid colours over prints.

That’s when I made a decision: to focus on minimalist, solid-colour teepees. This direction felt natural and honest, and it’s still the heart of my shop today.

Eventually, I stopped sewing bedding and baskets. It was time for a new chapter.

Through the years, our kids teepee tents continued to evolve. I added a small but important detail - a stabilizer - to make each teepee safer and sturdier. I also began including little wooden feathers as a gift with every teepee. When the package arrives, families can instantly set up, decorate, and begin playing.

One exciting chapter has been the launch of personalized teepees. You can now order custom embroidery with your child’s name on any model - making it a truly special and exclusive gift.

Another big moment for ITSFORKIDS was discovering my love for Mamaroo sets. These covers and inserts are designed for the iconic 4Moms Mamaroo and Rockaroo swings. Every mom wants something soft, beautiful, and safe for her baby - and when the design complements the nursery, it's even better. My Mamaroo sets are created with care and style, making them both practical and adorable.

From there, I began designing more useful pieces of nursery decor: crib organizers, cushions for Stokke high chairs, play mats, and car seat covers. Each item is made to be soft, stylish, and a joy to use.

I created our advent calendars when I couldn’t find one I liked for my own kids. We’d always had the tradition, but a few years ago I finally made a fabric version with little pockets for gifts. It turned out to be incredibly convenient - and beautiful, too.

My latest passion has been curtains and accessories for the Ikea Kura bed. We bought one for our son, and I started exploring ways to make it more magical. That’s when I discovered a whole new world. The Kura bed is incredibly versatile - it can become a sweet little cottage, a school bus, an ice cream café, or a playful shop. You can flip it, add a roof, or create your own theme. That’s why I adore it - and started designing Ikea Kura curtains and tent covers to bring those transformations to life.

Even though my children are now older - my daughter is 13, and my son is 9 - I’m still just as passionate about creating beautiful nursery decor and meaningful kids room decor. It’s a never-ending source of inspiration for me. And nothing brings me more joy than helping parents make their children’s spaces feel warm, safe, and special.
